Whilst COVID is causing a lot of people to rethink their New Year plans when you have a child, it does mean your New Year celebrations of past are a distant memory. In fact, a lot of parents will admit they go to sleep before the clock strikes midnight! However, you can still celebrate the end of 2020 with your little ones and make it a night to remember. And then you can get merry with a drink or two once they have gone to sleep or in our case, order a takeaway to enjoy. In normal times, I would have suggested a party with friends who also have children. The kids can play together while you all socialise and prepare to see the new year in. I have done this with close friends in the past and it's been a lovely evening. But obviously, this year is slightly different. Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate New Year's Eve with little ones.

Create a photo book with memories of the year

While lockdown has been awful, we have been able to have a lot of family time. Therefore, why not create a book with photos and mementoes from the past year. Depending on your child's age, they could help decorate the pages and stick the photos in the book. It's a great way to turn something that has been rather awful into a positive. And it's a great activity that you can do as a family while talking about your memories of 2020.

Have a fun movie night

You can still enjoy a great movie while you are in with the little ones on NYE. Get some popcorn, make a bowl of nachos (the more cheese the better!) and get lots of sweets to enjoy while watching a great film. Whether you go for something new or a classic favourite, you will enjoy watching a movie with the family. It's a perfect choice for those with younger babies too as you can still enjoy your evening while stopping when necessary to tend to your little one.

Enjoy a games evening

Celebrate the big night with a fun games evening with your family. Get out the classics such as Monopoly or UNOand have some fun with the kids. Even if they are little, you can still find some games to play to keep even toddlers entertained. You will find that you and your partner end up being the most competitive!

Have a small party for the kids

You can celebrate in style with your little ones with a fun party. Get a playlist sorted, blow up some balloons and put out some party food. You can even organise some games for your kids and don't forget the party hats. For the adults, you could make some cocktails and you could even connect virtually with other family who could have their own party.
