Mum's Heartbreak As Doctor DROPS Stillborn Child
by Your Baby Club NewsAn American mother has been left heartbroken after what should have been the beginning of her motherhood, ended in agony.
Kristal was 24 and living with her parents when she found out she was pregnant, but she had known her entire life that she wanted to be a mother. When she found out, she had only been dating her partner, Diego, for three-and-a-half months, and as she explains “Both Diego and I were in shock. All I could think about was how my parents were going to react. I even started to look into apartments just in case”. As expected, Kristal’s parents took some time to accept the news, however, they eventually embraced the news and couldn’t wait for the baby to arrive, with the whole family celebrating the revelation that the child would be a boy.
In Kristal’s words “He was perfectly perfect, tossing and turning in my belly, [...] His heart rate was great and nothing seemed to be wrong”. Despite this, Kristal had already gone to the doctors once about stabbing pains in her stomach, and although the doctor had diagnosed it as simply being growing pains, the next morning she woke up in such excruciating pain she couldn’t go to work, but instead of visiting the hospital, she went back to sleep. Once Kristal made the trip to the hospital, she waited hours to find out what was wrong. The initial reaction from nurses was that all was fine and that her baby was moving, however later, a doctor noticed she was leaking amniotic fluid.

After discovering this, doctors told Kristal she had an infection, which was causing her body to fight the pregnancy, putting her baby’s life at such a risk that she had been told it was unlikely her baby would survive. When the time came to deliver the baby, she had been hysterical for hours and had labour pains so painful she could barely move. As baby Ian entered the world, Kristal’s heartbreak was shared by all as he was stillborn. During the delivery, as Kristal describes, “Since Ian was so tiny, he kind of slid right out and they failed to catch him”, meaning the newly delivered, yet stillborn baby dropped to the floor, leaving nurses scrabbling around to pick him up again before handing him over to his grief-stricken parents, with the doctors only saying “It’s ok, you’re young, you’ll have more, YOU are OK”.
