This review was carried out by Charlie, dad to Ayla who is approaching two-years-old. They live in the UK and wanted to see if the RyRy Scallop car seat would fit well into their busy lifesyle.
First Impressions
My first impression is that the RyRy Scallop car seat is very cleverly designed and a visually appealing seat. The way it folds up so slim is particularly impressive. It’s quite heavy, but ISOFIX alone weigh a lot so this is to be expected when using an ISOFIX seat. However, it can be easily carried when folded up and I love that is also has handy backpack straps to carry it on your back. This feature makes it great for travelling or when out and about with your hands full.
Comfort & Ease of Use
It’s really easy to get Ayla into the seat and she appears to be comfortable when she's sat in there. The materials that are used seem very durable and easy to clean which is also handy. It’s front facing only so designed for toddlers rather than babies. The folding of this car seat is easy to do, meaning you can easily get it in and out of the car or store it away.
Safety Features
It’s a solid feeling, sturdy seat with a good 3 point harness and straps. ISOFIX and rear anchor mean you get the safety features of a full sized car seat in a much more compact size that you can take on holiday or on busy days out. It's great to know that you don't have to sacrifice on the safety of a bigger car seat just to find one that is easy to transport!
Value for Money
Compared to some other folding car seats on the market, it is slightly more expensive. However, it’s beautifully made and feels incredibly safe, plus it folds brilliantly for travelling. This extra money is worth it when you know you're getting a reliable and strurdy car seat to take out and about, rather than a lightweight and flimsy cheaper option. I would say that the RyRy Scallop car seat is good value for money despite the higher price point.
Final Thoughts
Overall this is a great car seat which I felt was a safe option. The folding mechanism is amazing for anyone who could make use of it. Whether travelling on a plane, train, or bus, or if you're someone who regularly gets taxis with your little one, this car seat is an amazing option. Or, if you're someone who has a smaller car and needs a seat that can be folded away if needed, this is a great option.
It's easy to fold, and once folded it's very slim and easy to store away as needed. If you need a car seat that will fit into your busy lifestyle, the RyRy Scallop car seat is the one for you!
