Baby Shower: Ideas For Your Own Special Day

Baby showers are definitely one of those many exports from the USA which has become a favourite over here in the last decade. I suddenly noticed a lot more people having them as people I knew began to have babies. I thought it sounded like a fun idea and a great way to get friends and family together before the new arrival.

I know during this pandemic, a lot of people have had virtual gatherings instead. I think this is a lovely idea and a great way to see friends and family before the baby arrives.

Some people don’t like the idea of a baby shower, but I really enjoyed mine. I loved seeing close friends and family before the baby arrived. I did decide against it the second time around as I felt we already had celebrated the start of my motherhood journey.

I really fancied an afternoon tea baby shower when it came to my first baby. My mum took the reins and organised everything for the baby shower.

Here are a few ideas from my own baby shower which you might like to use when holding your own or planning someone’s special event.

Afternoon tea (make your own or arrange it at a tea shop)

I love a good afternoon tea and have tried quite a few around the country. We did consider organising our own but then decided it might work out better with the number of people if we went to a tea shop. The tea shop in question has closed due to retirement since but they provided us with space plus the afternoon tea per guest. With an array of sandwiches, scones and cakes, it was really delicious and all the guests loved it. With afternoon tea, it’s good as it’s ideal for all ages too.

I think it would be fun to arrange your own too. It’s easy to source the towers where you can put your handmade sandwiches, cakes and scones that guests will love. Just find a lovely setting that is spacious, attractive and allows you to take part in the various games/present opening and then you can buy all the accessories you need to make it look baby shower ready!

Guess the date and weight

One of the most fun things we did at the baby shower was to guess the date and weight of the baby. It was such a nice keepsake and when my daughter did arrive, we let the person know who was the closest. It was nice to see who had got the closest time and date; quite a few were close. If you don’t know the gender, you can do this too! I just looked at this the other day in my keepsake box.

Baby photos

We also brought baby photos along and had to guess who was who. That also kept the conversation going and was something fun to do while munching on some afternoon tea. It also brings back some fun memories for people to talk about that you have known for years!

Baby charades

These were also a lot of fun. Everyone got a turn at doing a ‘baby charade’ and it eased any awkwardness between the guests. It was really funny and you can find these online if you want to print them off and give them to the guests.
