Celebrating the first mothers day for the woman who made you a parent is a big deal, and although you should appreciate them every day, it should be a no-brainer that this day should be extra special.

If your partner has recently given birth or even is still pregnant, it's easy to be swept up in the chaos of having your first child, so mother's day might not be at the top of your priority list. But, it's important to remind her how much she means to you, and mother's day is the perfect way to show that.

Although you might be thinking that getting her a box of chocolates or a mother's day themed gift, thoughtful, heartful gestures are the way to go to guarantee your partner feels loved and appreciated. So, here are five easy ways to help you plan the perfect first mothers day for your partner.

Find Small Ways To Express Your Love

Mother's day is a great time to come together and spend quality time as a family. Throughout the day make sure you find little ways to tell her how much you love and appreciate her.

Make sure you consciously take time to tell her how lucky you are to have her, whether you write it in a love note or you find a romantic moment to tell her in words. Recount funny stories together about your parenting journey so far, or tell her about a time you think fondly of.

Or, go out of your way to ensure her tasks for Monday morning are completed, such as bottle cleaning, meal prepping or cleaning out the nappy bag so that she can relax all day on Sunday. Bonus points if you opt for this one!

Give Her a Pamper Day

There are two ways to approach this, and she's bound to love both options. You could splash out and book her a day at a local spa and treat her to a day all about her. Make sure you book her favourite treatments so she can have the ultimate day of relaxation, as she definitely deserves it after her hard work.

Alternatively, give your partner a pamper day at home. Chances are, she's been missing out on sleep, so starting the day with a lay-in will be bliss (as long as it's uninterrupted sleep). Then, spend the day treating her like royalty; we're thinking breakfast in bed, a long bath and massages!

The main thing to remember, make sure she has as little to do as possible. Let her take the weight off of her feet and sit back and relax.

Don't forget her card

This might seem obvious, but a card goes a long way. Make sure you write her a nice card from the heart.

Take some time to think of all the reasons that you're lucky to have her in your life and put it down in a card, and she's bound to treasure it.

Don't Go Too Big

Your first mother's day as parents is a time to be together as a family and just be present in the moment. Resist the urge to make big, expensive plans, and simply use the day to do some wholesome family activities such as a picnic in the park (or garden if you'd like to stay closer to home) or a stroll along a beach.

Start a New Tradition

Having family traditions are so important, and your first mother's day is a great time to get yours started (if you haven't already!). It doesn't need to be anything big or extravagant, either.

Maybe paint your little one's foot and print it on the card, or take a family photo that you hang up on the wall. Or maybe buy a bunch of your partner's favourite flowers and bring these to them with some breakfast in bed.
